The desk is a personal landscape.

An album for portraits. A box for letters. Objects within reach give a private working world its order.

01 / Pictures and memory

Twenty-four places
for memory.

An album gives pictures an order. The Leuchars-marked cabinet photograph album recorded by the Science Museum Group contains twelve pages with spaces for twenty-four photographs. Today those spaces are empty.

What remains is the structure of a private collection: a cover, a clasp, initials and a sequence of places prepared for portraits. The record preserves the object while leaving the identities of its sitters open.

02 / The act of opening

A small threshold.

Before the first portrait comes the clasp. Metal meets wood at the edge of the cover: a small practical detail that makes opening an album a deliberate act.

The reconstruction brings that relationship closer. The museum record remains the source for the surviving object.

03 / The order of correspondence

A place for what comes next.

A letter arrives, waits and receives a reply. The correspondence box gives that small cycle a physical form: slots above, a lock at the front, a handle ready to lift.

From the desk, the story continues into writing cases and the compartments that gather a private working world.

The campaign opening is an imagined scene within the Leuchars world. Historical objects and their sources are identified in the Archive. Availability, materials and condition of any offered piece are stated in its individual description.
